Hand-crafted in a small family-run workshop in Granada, the Estornino traditional lebrillo is a testament to Fajalauza commitment to craftsmanship.
This hand-painted cobalt blue lebrillo showcases the graceful “estornino” or spotless starling, a native Andalusian songbird. Take a stroll in Trinidad Square in Granada during the evening hours and you'll be treated to an enchanting spectacle as a grand assembly of starlings takes center stage with their melodious performances.
In this picturesque scene, our starling perches gracefully on a branch of the pomegranate tree, another recurring motif in Fajalauza ceramics. The lebrillo’s walls are adorned with an intricate pattern of seashells.
As with all our Fajalauza stoneware, our skilled artisans make each item with care and precision using enduring techniques that go back to the 16th century. Here, the artist has lingered over the details on the feathers of the starling.
Lebrillos have historically been in a variety of ways in the home – as mixing bowls in the kitchen, as fruit bowls on the table, or even as laundry basins before the running water was a commonplace thing throughout the south.
This enduring symbol of Spanish culture has become a beloved item among collectors. Beyond their utilitarian roles, our Fajalauza lebrillos adorn walls and shelves or add a decorative accent to the garden.
