The fustrum-shaped lebrillo bowl is a quintessential Mediterranean ceramic basin, with regional variations in style and shape.
This classic Castilian lebrillo has steeper walls than the Andalusian lebrillo. And, unlike the horror vacui style of decoration common to Andalusian potters, Castilian artisans delineate the decorated surface into neat sections bound by concentric circles.
Here, the pattern is a whirlpool or “remolino” of vegetal motifs and quickly-sketched volutes painted with a thick brush. The flowers appear to swirl around the concentric circles that draw the eye toward the center, imbuing the composition with a sense movement.
Bathed in a fully transparent glaze that reveals the fine grain of the sandy clay beneath, this decorative bowl bears the marks of its provenance.
This particular Castilian motif was en vogue between the 16th and 18th centuries, before the introduction of plastics, when no household could afford to do without a good selection of pottery.
Hand-painted in blue, green, honey-yellow, and brown-black, the traditional color palette prevails though time has softened the patina.
Dimensions: 34 cm in diameter
Hanging your decorative plate: A small incision in the foot of the plate allows for hanging. Our heavier items like lebrillos require a wall mount.

Traditional Lebrillos
Hand-made and hand-painted in small batches, our Green Concha Traditional Spanish Lebrillo is a testament to Fajalauza craftsmanship. A large wreath of pomegranate fruit and flowers cover the entire base of the lebrillo. The walls of the bowl feature a design of concentric patterns.
In keeping with traditional Fajalauza designs, this Concha Lebrilo features the beloved flora of the Andalusian landscape.
Rooted in a ceramic legacy that dates back to the 16th century, this flat-bottomed bowl has moved past its once utilitarian function as a much valued washing basin before the introduction of modern amenities. Passed down from generation to generation, these important family heirlooms were lovingly repaired when damaged, never to be discarded.
Nowadays, the lebrillo often serves a decorative purpose, too. Displayed on walls inside the home and in gardens, its intricate designs make for a distinctive decorative accent. Mix and match with another Fajalauza classic, the fuente semillana.

Lebrillo Serving Bowls
Every colorway in our Fajalauza Collection has at least one item that pays homage to its native city. The Green Granada Fajalauza Lebrillo Serving Bowl features our lovely pomegranate or granada, the emblem of the Andalusian city on the base. A wreath of flowers crowns the fruit. Slender swaying leaves cover the walls of the ceramic bowl.
Made in a soft sea-foam green, this Spanish serving bowl is a classic in the Fajalauza tradition.
This style of bowl, made in the same shape as the traditional lebrillo, is traditionally known as a fuente semillana. Much like lebrillos, fuentes are beloved family heirlooms. This once indispensable household staple has become a cherished collector’s item, adorning walls and shelves in many modern homes.

Fajalauza in Yellow
Given its intricately decorated surface, this large serving bowl is often displayed on shelves and walls.
Dubbed “fuente semillana” this flat-bottomed bowl has an inverted cone-shaped body and rounded border.
The Granada Lebrillo Serving Bowl features a large pomegranate and flowers on the base and concentric patterns adorn the walls of the vessel. Filled with fruits, this large bowl makes for a pretty centerpiece.
In keeping with the traditional style of Fajalauza ceramics, the design is lush and features native Andalusian flora.
Handmade and hand-painted in southern Spain, our yellow Fajalauza collection is a modern take on more traditional blue and green pieces.

Fajalauza in Green
Painted in a vivid green over white glaze, this wide-rimmed plate bears our most emblematic motif: granada or pomegranate.
According to some historians, the Romans named the city of Granada after the Latin granatum or pomegranate, a fruit-bearing tree abundant in the area. Others credit the phonetic evolution of the Arabic "gar-anat," meaning 'hill of pilgrims.'
The pomegranate grows well in arid conditions. Its tough skin protects it from drying, making it a perfect survival food that could feed caravans traveling long journeys.
The resilient fruit tree may have been a staple for the desert people who conquered Andalucía in the 8th century.
Now abundant in the region, the pomegranate has become an enduring symbol of Granada’s culture. Fajalauza ceramics pay homage to that heritage with myriad variations in design.
Love the Granada motif? Find it on plates, fuentes, or lebrillos.

Custom Colors
This handmade Spanish ceramic dinner plate is one of the more minimalist designs known within the Fajalauza tradition. Covered in a white glaze, the surface of the plate features a circular pattern that resembles feathery candy stripes. Called “palmilla” in the Fajalauza tradition, these motif recalls the date palms that are common across southern Spain.
Besides palms, Fajalauza ceramics often feature vegetal elements of the landscape especially the pomegranate tree, the symbol of this tradition’s hometown, Granada.
This purple Palmilla Dinner Plate pairs especially well with other items from our Fajalauza Violeta Collection including the lovely Estornino Salad/Dessert Plate.
