The Nerea Small Ceramic Dinner Plate is the minimalist version of our Springtime favorite, the Primavera Floral Dinner Plate. This hand-painted Portuguese ceramic dinnerware boasts an airy and easy-going design. Individual flowers amidst a profusion of leaves on the lip of the plate. The base remains unadorned, giving the design a bit of breathing room.
Handmade and hand-painted by skilled artisans in southern Portugal, this small dinner plate is as beautiful as it is durable. Our artisans maintain the traditional methods they inherited from the time of the Phoenicians and Moors.
The use of red clay earthenware pottery has been a staple in the region and gives these Portuguese ceramic pieces their thickness and a distinctive tactile quality.
The motifs used in our pottery reflect traditional patterns seen in museum exhibits across the Mediterranean region since they have been passed down from one potter generation to another for centuries.
Our crockery is hand-glazed and fired in kilns at temperatures exceeding 1000º C (approximately 2000º F), making it safe for food.
We decorate our ceramics with the traditional Majolica technique, which involves painting over the glaze. This technique requires free-flowing brushwork, similar to fresco painting, and gives each piece a unique character based on the individual painter’s style.
