The Blue Granado Traditional Spanish Lebrillo is a nod to its namesake city. Hand-thrown and painted by hand in a small family-run workshop in southern Spain, this design features three pomegranates in the center of the base. Pomegranate flowers crown the fruits while the walls of the basin bear concentric patterns separated by slender leaves.
Some historians say that the Romans christened the city of Granada after the "granatum," or pomegranate while other sources say the name evolved phonetically from the Arabic "Gar-anat," meaning 'hill of pilgrims.'
Thriving in arid conditions, the pomegranate may have been especially important to the desert dwellers who settled southern Spain in the 8th century.
Fajalauza, another part of the region’s legacy, has become synonymous with Granada. Rooted in a ceramic tradition dating back to Moorish rule, Fajalauza designs boast intricate geometric forms and vibrant vegetal motifs.
Cherished as family heirlooms, lebrillos are passed down through generations and often serve as decorative objects. Collectors display these pieces along with another Fajalauza classic, the fuente semillana or serving bowl.
